Stupid News

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 24, 2008, 7:48 PM

Every day, at least once, I check Yahoo to get a run down on the news going on. I've got numerous other sources of course, but Yahoo is my main updater. I begin to ask myself why lately, as I've started to realize how shitty of a site it is when it comes to actual news. That's not the purpose of this journal is though; I just felt compelled to comment on some news and such that I've got some opinions about.

The first one I've come across so far would be the bit about the New York law passed about game regulation. If you don't know about this, don't worry, it won't be around long. Numerous states have tried to pass laws regulating game sales, restricting sales to minors and species under five feet, and basically passing laws to do... exactly what the ESRB already does. So far, all of these laws that have been passed have been quickly struck down under the reason that they are deemed unconstitutional. This one, which is basically the same as all the others, won't be any different. There was one part that bugged me about this one though. Once of the purposes/goals of the law was "to establish an advisory council to conduct a study on the connection between interactive media and real-life violence in minors exposed to such media." Are you kidding me? You'd think after five thousand of these stupid studies you'd get the point that you'll never get a definite result. Of course the government won't stop with that though; they'll keep launching study after study until they get the result they want. Hell, they'd launch 55 studies determining if the moon is made out of cheese or not if they wanted people to believe that it was. They just want to keep launching these studies until people give up and just go "yeah, sure, teenagers are being forced by pixels with pixelated guns who shoot pixelated people to get a real gun and shoot real people. There's some things you need to think about when it comes to teenagers who go apeshit with guns. First, how the hell did they happen to get a semi-automatic rifle? Secondly, why is a past time that is no more violent than any action or horror movie suddenly more of an influence than the abuse and social neglect these individuals have gone through up to this point? Would that not be the contributing factor? Hell, maybe if the government didn't fail when it came to gun control laws acquiring the weaponry wouldn't have been possible in the first place. And another thing, youth crime hasn't been "on the rise" since video games were invented. People did not suddenly start beating each other to death with paddles when Pong came out, start throwing barrels at Italian men when Donkey Kong came out, or shooting the half-dead looking drunk guy stumbling around at the mall when Doom came out. Teenagers have always been violent, because that's what we are. We're stupid and spontaneous, and we've always been violent, just like we've always been horny and lazy. The rate of violence hasn't risen, it's the rate of reported incidents, thanks to this overprotective society of ours. I'd like to make one thing clear though; while we ARE stupid and spontaneous, we aren't quite stupid enough to be swayed by something like a simple form of entertainment. If someone DOES had the time and mindset open to being swayed by such a thing, then maybe that's a failure on the side of parents to notice it and not a part of the game company. Completely censoring or restricting something because such a small minority acts negatively to it doesn't make any sense. A small minority of people get shot in the face with guns, yet those are perfectly okay to keep. Why? Because those who gave birth to the United States wanted to allow the people the ability to stand up for their rights if the system ever became oppressive and tyrannical. I'm sorry, but I very much doubt the American people will need to launch another revolution, so that right is a little out of style and out of need now; just like how sacrificing livestock to God went out of style as times changed.

Another thing that's no longer needed in today's times; Feminism. Feminism was a great concept back when women did not have rights and its thanks to the feminists that people were finally able to act right and treat women equally and properly. However, nowadays, what issues are they arguing over? It seems every time I see some feminism screaming her head off about something it has very little to do with actual women's rights violations and more to do with "how women are seen or portrayed". Apparently people aren't allowed to make their own judgment anymore. Why is it that we need a group of women to tell us how women should be portrayed, a group of blacks to tell us how blacks should be portrayed, and a group of bulls to tell us how to properly display the shit from their ass? We can't, you know, leave it to the individual to watch something where a women or black man or something might be portrayed unfairly and have them so "that's fucked up?".

One thing that makes me laugh is how the headlines on Yahoo for E3 all say something dramatic like "game developers battle it out at E3". A battle? Really? E3 was more like a bunch of college frat boys have a farting contest, because when the dust settled after E3 we were all left with a musty smell that resembled rotten eggs and crushed hopes.

The biggest laugh for me lately had to come out of the story about 50 Cent suing Taco Bell for using his likeness in their commercials without his permission. While "Fiddy", a name no doubtably devised by an autistic fan of his, was in the right for putting forth the lawsuit, what made me laugh was that in it he was claiming that Taco Bell was "infringing on his good name". 50 Cent? Good name? Seriously? Is this guy seriously saying that Taco Bell is LESS of a good name than a guy who sings about objectifying women and... god knows what else. I won't even get started on his crimes against the video game community.

That's all for now, I'm getting too tired to continue

Just do anything to it. The problem is that you have special effect, special effect, ordinary text, special effect, special effect, etc. What's worse is the ordinary test is the main focus and point of the journal. You can change the font, change the colour; anything to make it not look like just a captain

Before that though, you might want to wait until you actually do a full journal. What you have there now is only just a sentence, so it's hard to judge how a real journal would look

the bar at the bottom defiantly needs to be clearer. The top black text is what you are saying is to... naked.. I'm not sure what to do to fix it..should it be a lighter colour of different type of different placement?

It looks good; the only complaint I would have about it is that the actual text of the journal looks naked since it's smooshed between two special background things without having any features of itself. The thing at the bottom where it says "such and such comments" is also hard to read

    Otherwise, yeah, it looks good

    You're welcome ^^

I found that I continuously went to your page to see if you updated your journal recently, so I figured it'd be smarter to just watch you
